I am a professional dental surgeon currently in private practice in Kolkata, India. Alongside my medical career, I have cultivated a lifelong passion for photography—an art form that has remained an integral part of my identity since my early college days.

My journey into photography began around 1992, when I started shooting with a Nikon FM2, exploring and documenting the timeless streets of Kolkata. In an era when photography was entirely analog and resources were limited, every frame demanded patience, precision, and deep intent. Film rolls were precious, access was restricted, and opportunities were earned through persistence rather than convenience. Those early years taught me discipline, observation, and the value of waiting for the right moment.

One of my earliest self-assigned documentary projects was covering the historic period surrounding the passing of Mother Teresa. Undertaking such a sensitive and significant subject at a young age was both challenging and transformative. During this time, I had the privilege of encountering legendary photographer Raghu Rai and several other eminent photojournalists—an experience that deeply inspired me and strengthened my resolve to pursue serious documentary and cultural photography.

Over the years, I have built an extensive body of work centered on India’s spiritual, cultural, and human narratives. My documentary projects include covering the Kumbh Mela on five separate occasions—capturing the scale, devotion, and raw human energy of one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. I have also documented major cultural and spiritual events such as the Mahamastakabhisheka, Ganga Sagar pilgrimage, Hola Mohalla, and Theyyam, among many others.

Beyond large-scale festivals and religious congregations, I have undertaken numerous street photography explorations across different regions of India. Street photography allows me to observe subtle human interactions, layered emotions, and the quiet drama embedded in everyday life. I am drawn to moments that are fleeting yet deeply expressive.

Nature photography forms another important dimension of my work. Through my journeys to the Himalayas, I have created a collection of landscapes that reflect the grandeur, serenity, and ever-changing moods of the mountains. I am particularly attentive to natural light, atmosphere, and composition—elements that, to me, transform a photograph from mere documentation into a visual experience.

For me, photography is not merely a parallel pursuit; it is a lifelong dialogue between observation and emotion, between stillness and movement, between science and art. Whether in the precision required in dental practice or the patience demanded behind the lens, my work is guided by discipline, sensitivity, and an enduring commitment to excellence.
